What Christmas Is All About

In 1965, Charles M. Schulz introduced A Charlie Brown Christmas to the world. In this classic holiday story, the Peanuts gang is supposed to be getting ready for the big Christmas play. But no one is paying attention.
Theyre all too busy dancing. Or decorating
like Snoopy. Or complaining about presents
like Lucy. Or writing to Santa
like Sally.
All this "commercialism" makes Charlie Brown depressed. He feels theres something missingand finally he yells out in frustration "Isnt there ANYONE who knows what Christmas is all about?"
His friends stop what theyre doing. They dont know what to say. Only Linus steps forward with the answer
straight from the Bible.
"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." (Luke 2:8-14)
"Thats what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."
Yes, Christmas is all about our Savior, Jesus Christ, being born. You see, the Bible says that without Jesus, we are separated from God forever. We can never be as perfect as He is.
There is none righteous, no, not one. (Romans 3:10)
Our sins, those bad things we do and say and think, go against what God wants for us. And like all bad things, our sins need to be punished. So God sent Jesus to save us from that punishment. As our Savior Jesus died for our sins so that we could be forgiven.
God commendeth [showed] his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
But three days later Jesus came back to life, and He is still alive today! When we believe in Him and let Him be our Savior, He forgives all our sins and promises we will live with Him in heaven forever. Thats what Christmas is all about!
In loving memory of Charles M. Schulz
If you would like Jesus to be your Savior today, you can tell Him in a prayer
- That you sin and cant ever be perfect on your own. Tell Him you are sorry.
- That you understand the Christmas story of the Bible and believe it is true. Jesus was born. He came to earth to save you.
- That you believe He died so your sins could be forgiven, and that you want to live with Him in heaven forever.
