"He is not here; but is risen!"
~ Luke 24:6

For most children today Easter has been commercialized into Easter eggs and bunnies. Bombarded by media images, a vast array of chocolate eggs, bunnies and pretty Easter baskets in the stores, and friends and relatives continually talking about the Easter rabbit with never a mention of Jesus, children are inevitably influenced by and distracted from the real meaning of Easter.

To emphasis the true meaning of Easter, the death and resurrection of Jesus, the only Son of God, to the children, we've chosen a craft using a familiar item displayed in the community around Easter - a hollow Easter egg.

How can an egg represent the meaning of Easter? Think about what happens when a mother hen sits on her eggs for a few weeks. What happens? The eggs soon crack open and baby chicks come out. An egg means new life. It reminds us that there is a new life inside that can come out. The hollow Easter egg can remind children that on Easter morning Jesus' tomb was empty because he had risen from the dead. He is alive, and because He is alive, we too can have a new life in Him!

The simple basket portion of this craft focuses on removing the invariable commercial packaging of Easter eggs which clearly have nothing to do with the real meaning of Easter.
