Jesus' Death & Resurrection
Jesus' Entry into Jerusalem:
John 11:45 thru 12:9 shows the background for the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The leaders of the Jewish nation wanted Jesus killed. Jesus had not made a public appearance in a while. News of Lazarus' resurrection (John 11:1- 44) was spreading and many were believing on Jesus because of it. The question of whether Jesus would dare come to Jerusalem for the Passover was part of everyone's conversation.
Not only did he come - he came as a King!
Today, the Sunday before Easter is known as Palm Sunday. It celebrates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. Great crowds of people thronged the streets waving palm branches to welcome Him. The people shouted "Hosanna" and laid their cloaks and palm branches from the nearby trees in His path. Read about it in Luke 19:29-40

The Last Supper:

Jesus obeyed the Jewish law and took the Passover feast.
A place for Jesus and his disciples to take the Passover was provided for them. Judas' greed was stronger than his loyalty to Jesus and planned to betray Jesus ahead of time, even before this feast. Jesus knew he was to be betrayed, warned his disciples about it, and gave Judas every chance not to do it. During the last supper, Jesus also told His disciples to remember Him after He went to heaven by eating bread and drinking grape juice. Read about Judas' betrayal and the Last Supper in Matthew 26:14-30 and John 13

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane:
During the night, after the Last Supper, Jesus and His disciples went to a garden. Jesus prayed and asked His Heavenly Father if it were possible for Him not to have to die. He also prayed that He would do what God His Father wanted, not what He wanted. Jesus knew He was going to have to suffer and die, but He was willing to do it. Read how Jesus spent his last night in the garden of Gethsemane in Matthew 26: 36-57
